Last Essex County Duane Reade Location Closes

Irvington, New Jersey: The last Duane Reade location in Essex County has closed its doors to customers. The pharmacy and convenience store chain's last area store was located at 1114 Springfield Avenue in Irvington, at the corner of Lake Street. The store was located within a few blocks of several pharmacies, including a Rite Aid location, and the space is now available for lease.

Duane Reade used to have several locations in Eastern Essex County. There used to be stores in Newark on Broad Street and on Springfield Avenue.

Now, nearly all of Duane Reade's locations are within the New York City limits. The chain was acquired by Walgreens five years ago. Walgreens has since expanded its presence in the area, and opened a store several blocks away from the Irvington Duane Reade on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood in 2011.
