Farmers Market Opens on Springfield Avenue in Irvington

Irvington, New Jersey: There is a new place to buy groceries in the Irvington Center Business District.

The Irvington Farmers Market recently opened at 1082 Springfield Avenue, between Smith Street and Civic Square. The market serves fruits and vegetables in addition to African, West Indian, and American foods.

The space once contained the Smile Market, but had been vacant for several years until the new market opened.

The Irvington Farmers Market is one of several businesses in the township that are now serving fresh fruits and vegetables. The new 'Healthy Corner Store Initiative' partnership has allowed nearly a dozen businesses in the township to now serve fresh foods.

One of Irvington's largest businesses that sells fresh fruits and vegetables, the Pathmark in the South Ward, could close soon should it not be bought by another corporation.
