208 Apartments Planned for Orange's Lycored Site

Orange, N.J.: More development proposals are continuing to come in for the neighborhoods surrounding Orange's main train station. Now, one of the city's few remaining active industrial tracts could be redeveloped into residential use.

The Lycored property, located at 377 Crane Street between South Essex and Lincoln Avenues, is the site of a proposed multifamily project. A legal notice from the City of Orange Township states that D&R Orange Urban Renewal, LLC is planning a building with 208 market-rate units, all of which would be rentals. In addition, 142 covered parking spaces and 14 surface spots would be provided for residents on the property and 140 additional spaces would allow for public municipal parking, according to the notice.

D&R Orange Urban Renewal, LLC is registered out of the same address in Carlstadt, Bergen County as Russo Development, which is responsible for projects such as Vermella Harrison and Verona's Annin Lofts. The firm is seeking Preliminary and Final Site Plan and minor subdivision approval for this development.

In order to make way for the project, all of the existing structures of the premises would be torn down, including a large three-story building with a bell tower. For over a decade, the site has been owned by Lycored, a nutraceutical company, but previously contained H. Reisman and Knoll Pharmaceuticals. The property is situated adjacent to the train station's parking lot and is just west of L+M's 50 & 55 South Essex Avenue project.

The Orange Planning Board is expected to hear the proposal during its meeting this Wednesday, June 27th at 7:30pm.
