Update: Evacuation Concluded at Maplewood's Columbia High School

Maplewood, New Jersey: Students and staff at Columbia High School in Maplewood have returned to class following an evacuation. The fire alarm was activated at approximately 11:20am, and the building was reopened at approximately 11:55am.

Units from the Maplewood Fire Department responded within five minutes, and students waiting on Kensington Terrace were moved to the sidewalks so that a fire truck could pass. Parker Avenue was closed during the evacuation.

Principal Elizabeth Aaron told students that the evacuation was caused by an odor of smoke in several classrooms.
