Part of South Orange Avenue to Close from April 28 to April 30

South Orange, New Jersey: Part of one of Essex County's busiest county roads will temporarily close later this month. According to a release from Essex County officials, South Orange Avenue will be closed between Cherry Lane/Brookside Drive in Millburn Township and South Wyoming Avenue in South Orange from Tuesday, April 28th at 7:00am to Thursday, April 30th at 7:00pm. The road closure includes the South Mountain Reservation 'S-Curves'. Drivers will be directed on a 5.5 mile detour using North Wyoming Avenue in South Orange, Gregory and Northfield Avenues in West Orange, and Cherry Lane in Millburn and West Orange. The road closures will also affect the Livingston Express Shuttle bus service and Coach USA Bus 31.

According to county officials, the road closure is necessary so that the existing Lenape Trail pedestrian bridge can be torn down. A temporary bridge will be installed, and a new bridge will be constructed at a later point. Hikers can use an alternate route along Cherry Lane.

Those seeking to reach South Orange's Newstead neighborhood and surrounding area off of South Orange Avenue will be allowed to bypass the detour at the South Wyoming Avenue side only.
