Grand Opening at Gateway Project on April 30


Newark, New Jersey: The Gateway Project in Downtown Newark will hold a grand opening celebration on Thursday, April 30th. The space will be used for pop-up art exhibitions and studios for artists. The festivities will begin at 5:00pm, when local leaders will cut the ribbon on the spaces and gallery. At 6:00pm, an opening reception will take place. Visitors can view the exhibit in the concourse, titled 'You Are Now Here', and see the new gallery exhibit titled 'Visualizing Our Americana: Color Polemics'. According to the Gateway Project, the exhibit examines "both the fricticious discord and harmonious outcomes of racial politics in the United States". Participating artists include Ayad Alkadhi, David Antonio Cruz, Derrick Adams, Chiraag Bhakta, Hank Willis Thomas, Himanshu Suri, Jc Lenochan, Kameelah Rasheed, Kara Walker, Laura Kina, Lunar New Year, Nick Kline, Nina Chanel Abney, Nyugen Smith, Richard Barnes, Tomie Arai, and Travis Somerville. The ALVA Tavern will provide a cash bar.

2 Gateway Center is located at the corner of McCarter Highway (Route 21) and Market Street, and can also be accessed using the elevated walkway from Newark Penn Station.
