Body Found Near South Mountain Reservation Dog Park

Maplewood, New Jersey: Essex County officials are reporting that a deceased person was found in the South Mountain Reservation County Park on Tuesday afternoon by a visitor walking their dog. The body was reportedly discovered near the border of Maplewood and Millburn Townships, in a wooded area near the South Mountain Reservation Dog Park and Wildflower Preserve.

Crest Drive was closed off by the Essex County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division at approximately 6:00pm. As of 11:00pm, the roadway remains closed. An investigation is currently underway.

This is not the first time in recent years that a body has been discovered in the 2100 acre park. In 2011, a woman walking her dog found the body of a missing Millburn man, and in 2006, the remains of a Brooklyn, New York man were found in garbage bags by an Essex County Sheriff's Office deputy near South Orange Avenue in the central part of the park.
