Justice Department and Newark Police to Hold Community Meeting



Newark, New Jersey: A community meeting regarding policing in the City of Newark will be held this month.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 10th, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Room 070 of the Rutgers-Newark School of Criminal Justice.

Attendees can hear from police and DOJ officials, as well as former New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey, who is the new federal monitor of the NPD. Information regarding NPD reform efforts and the consent decree will be shared, and residents can ask questions and share their opinions and concerns. 

According to the event flyer, there will be Portuguese and Spanish language interpreters at the event, which will be sponsored by the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, and the Newark Police Department.

Rutgers-Newark's School of Criminal Justice is located at 123 Washington Street in Downtown, between Warren and Bleeker Streets.
