Freetown Cafe Planned for Downtown Newark

Newark, New Jersey: A new Jamaican restaurant is coming to Downtown Newark.

Freetown Cafe is planned for 41 Halsey Street, at the corner of Bleeker Street, just across the street from the Hahne & Company redevelopment project. According to the business Instagram account, "a creative unique Jamaican experience" will be offered at the business, which will be owned by Kwame Williams, the Executive Chef at Vital Dining in Montclair Center.

The space had been empty for over a year, and was previously occupied by Elbow Room Brooklyn, a restaurant serving macaroni and cheese. Before that, the building was abandoned for several years.
