Distribution Center Planned for Vacant East Orange Lot

East Orange, New Jersey: A new development could be coming to a large vacant lot in East Orange.

At the end of June, the East Orange City Council passed a resolution designating Woodmont Industrial Partners as the redeveloper of the lot at 11-41 Sussex Avenue, between South 15th Street and Steuben Street.

Woodmont, based in Fairfield, "invests, develops, builds, markets, and manages a growing portfolio of strategically located port/intermodal industrial properties in the Eastern United States", according to the company.

The resolution states that "the City desires to develop the Property as a distribution and warehousing center development to service the residents of the City", and that "the redeveloper submitted, and the City evaluated, a concept for a distribution and warehousing center for the Property".

Located along the Newark border, the eight-acre property stretches back to 9th Avenue. The East Orange Housing Authority's Arcadian Gardens housing project, also known as 'Lil City', was previously located at the site. Built in 1969, when many Newarkers relocated to East Orange, Arcadian Gardens was demolished in 2004.
