Report: Rev. Al Sharpton to Speak in Newark Today

Newark, New Jersey: Reverend Al Sharpton will return to Essex County today.

The MSNBC host and founder of the National Action Network will speak at a social justice rally outside of the Peter Rodino Federal Building this afternoon, according to Lawrence Hamm of the People's Organization for Progress (POP).

An event flyer states that the rally, called 'Respect With Dignity, Justice for Peace' will begin at 5:30pm, and will be hosted by National Action Network New Jersey. Program sponsors will include POP, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, the City of Newark, the Newark Anti-Violence Coalition, and the NAACP.

Sharpton received Newark's 'Key to the City' from Mayor Ras Baraka last year, and Sharpton and Baraka participated in a conference in Washington, DC with President Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Wednesday.

The Peter Rodino Federal Building is located at 970 Broad Street, between East Kinney Street and Franklin Street. Transportation is available using local NJ Transit buses.
