New Parking Garage Proposed for Downtown Newark

Newark, New Jersey: A new parking complex is planned for Downtown Newark.

The Newark Parking Authority (NPA) is planning to build a large facility at 47-63 Green Street, between Broad Street and Mulberry Street. The land where the new complex could be built stretches along Mulberry Street from Green Street to Franklin Street.

According to a legal notice from the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment, the NPA's proposal calls for a new parking garage with 649 spaces, new headquarters space for the NPA, a new Newark Municipal Court and office, and retail space on the ground floor.

The NPA is currently based within the Robert Treat Center on Park Place, near Military Park.

The property, owned by the City of Newark, is currently used as a parking lot. It is located near Newark City Hall and the Prudential Center, adjacent to the Newark Municipal Court.

Newark's Zoning Board of Adjustment will hear the plans at its meeting on Monday, July 26th at 7:00pm at City Hall.
