Plans Continue for Tucker View Apartments in Newark

Newark, New Jersey: A new development planned for Newark is moving forward.

The Tucker View Apartments will consist of two buildings in the South Ward of the city. According to a legal notice from the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment, Building A at 1041 Bergen Street, at the corner of Lehigh Avenue, will be five stories tale, and will feature 32 residential units, 14 parking spaces, and commercial space. Building B at 1057 Bergen Street, at the corner of Harding Terrace, will contain 10 residential units on top of a first floor community center. There will also be a rooftop deck on one of the buildings.

The property at 1041 Bergen had been a vacant tract for several years, and the Rittersbacher Building used to stand at the site of 1057 Bergen before being demolished to make way for the new development. The Bergen Street corridor is one of the few Newark neighborhoods to feature direct NJ Transit bus service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan, and the area was highlighted in 2015 by the Better Block Newark project.

Newark-based Bergen Street Redevelopment, LLC is the project developer, and local firm C+C Architecture is the architect. Matrix New World of Florham Park, Morris County will be the engineer. The project will receive $1,300,000.00 in Federal HOME Program Funds from the City of Newark, and it could also receive a 30-year tax abatement.
