Bus Lane Photo Enforcement Could Come to Newark

Newark, New Jersey: If you park illegally in bus lanes in Newark, the chances of you receiving a ticket could be going up.

According to a legal notice, an ordinance was passed last month permitting a bus lane photo enforcement system to be installed in the City of Newark. There are currently bus lanes used by NJ Transit buses along Raymond Boulevard near Newark Penn Station. The ordinance was passed by the Newark Municipal Council on May 18th and was signed by Mayor Ras Baraka on May 20th, according to the notice.

The fine for parking in the bus lane will increase from $35 to $50 under the new ordinance.

The City has not yet released where and when such a system would be installed. Newark used to have red light enforcement cameras throughout the city until the system ended across New Jersey in 2014.
