A BID in Newark's West Ward?

Newark, New Jersey: A Business Improvement District could be coming to Newark's West Ward. A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at the Speedway Academies from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. It will be sponsored by the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation, Newark Councilman Joe McCallum, and the Unified Vailsburg Services Organization. Business Improvement Districts, or BIDs, already exist in Maplewood, South Orange, Downtown Newark, Newark's Ironbound, along Mount Prospect Avenue in Newark's North Ward, and along Clinton Avenue in South Ward of Newark. The new West Ward BID would include South Orange Avenue in Vailsburg between Dover and Bergen Streets, Mount Vernon Place in Ivy Hill, Sanford Avenue in Vailsburg, and 18th Avenue. A BID allows businesses in an area to form an organization to help manage commerce in the area. For example, the South Orange Village Center Alliance serves Downtown South Orange, and the Newark Downtown District serves Downtown Newark. The Speedway Academies are located near the Garden State Parkway at 701 South Orange Avenue, between North Munn and Maybaum Avenues. Click here to learn more.
