Photos: South Orange Buildings Demolished

South Orange, New Jersey: Several buildings along West South Orange Avenue in Downtown South Orange were torn down this past weekend. The buildings were formerly home to the Jardiniere Flower Shop, a location of the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, and several apartments. The storefronts had remained vacant since 2007, when the Great Wall moved to 135 South Orange Avenue and Jardiniere moved to Irvington Avenue. Jardiniere permanently closed a few months later.

The space will temporarily become small public parking lot, but a mixed use residential and commercial development will eventually be constructed on the site.

A building that once located next door to the recently demolished buildings housed an Oriental Rug Center location before being torn down more than 10 years ago. The property has been vacant since. In addition, a building across Church Street that once housed the Gentlemen's Row store was torn down in 2014 to make way for apartments.
