PHOTOS: Michelle Obama Visits Newark Charter School

Newark, New Jersey: Michelle Obama visited a charter school in Newark's Central Ward on Thursday afternoon.

The First Lady came to Philip's Academy Charter School on Central Avenue as part of her American Garden Tour, and toured the school's rooftop garden. In addition, Obama also joined students in the school's cafeteria with Today Show meteorologist Al Roker. The school "created the EcoSpaces Education program to connect students to food, how it’s grown, and how it nourishes their bodies in order to empower them to make healthy choices throughout their lives", according to the Office of the First Lady.

Obama visited a middle school in Burke County, Georgia before coming to Newark.
