More than 500,000 people have visited the Turtle Back Zoo so far this year. According to a press release from the County of Essex, the milestone was reached on August 29. “Thank you to the families, school groups and organizations that choose to make our Zoo their destination", said Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. "It is amazing to watch the excitement on children’s faces as they see animals up close and humbling to see so many people become fans of Turtle Back". The zoo is located at the South Mountain Recreation Complex on Northfield Avenue.
