Verona, New Jersey: A historic mansion off of Route 23 will hold several activities for the holiday season.
Kip's Castle in Verona, which is owned by the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, is normally closed to the general public due to renovations on the upper levels of the building, but will open in November and December for special events.
Visitors can take self guided tours of the home's first floor on Fridays and weekends from November 27th to December 31st. The mansion will also be open for the Essex County Holiday Historic House Tour weekend. Candlelight tours of the building will be offered after dark on Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays in December, though registration is required.
Kip's Castle is located within Kip's Castle Park atop the First Watchung Mountain, and there are views of Montclair, The Meadowlands, Newark, and New York from the grounds. The entrance is at 23 Crestmont Road, and there is free parking. Transportation is available using NJ Transit Bus 11.
