Apartments and Stores Coming to Newark's North Ward

Newark, New Jersey: Two lots in the Lower Broadway neighborhood of Newark's North Ward are being redeveloped.

LB Associates is in the process of constructing a new mixed use development called Bloomfield Plaza at 95 Broadway, stretching along Bloomfield Place to Broad Street. The building will have five retail spaces and 10 ten apartments when completed. Peskin's Discount Home Center, an appliance and furniture store, previously stood at the site. It opened in 1932, but closed its doors five years ago.

The project developer is proposing to create a parking lot for the building with room for 17 vehicles one block away at 265 Broad Street, at the corner of Clark Street. There will be a hearing regarding the proposal on March 7th before the Newark Central Planning Board. The lot, across from New Era Furniture Warehouse, is currently vacant
