Seton Hall to Host Conference Today


South Orange, New Jersey: South Orange-based Seton Hall University will host the fourth annual 'Celebration of Womanhood “Fabulous Me” Conference' today from 9:00am to 2:30pm at the University Center. The event will be sponsored by the Family Service Bureau of Newark, and funding will be provided by the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission's New Jersey Governor’s Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Committee. According to SHU, the event "is dedicated to the education and empowerment of young women, aged 12-17". The main speaker will be Peggy Merck. 

Seton Hall University is located at 400 South Orange Avenue.

Help the World Mission Society Clean Up Branch Brook Park


Newark, New Jersey: The World Mission Society Church of God will organize a cleanup of the oldest county park in the United States. Branch Brook Park, a 360-acre park in Newark and Belleville, opened in 1895. The cleanup will take place this Sunday, June 14th from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The church will partner with the Branch Brook Park Alliance and Essex County Parks to work on cleaning up certain areas and garden in others. Over 50 church members will help volunteer, however, members of the general public are encouraged to come assist. This will be the first World Mission Society cleanup of Branch Brook Park. Branch Brook Park can be accessed using local New Jersey Transit buses and the Newark Light Rail. To learn more, or to inquire about volunteering, call ​the World Mission Society Church of God at (540) 422-1776.

MACFest Coming to East Orange


East Orange, New Jersey: The first East Orange MACFest will take place this Saturday, June 13th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. The event will celebrate Music, Arts, and Culture in the city, and will be held at City Hall Plaza. Admission is free, and there will be live music by East Orange natives and New Jersey bands. The performances will begin East Orange's Jazz at the Plaza Concert Series. In addition, the Montclair Art Museum Art Truck will be present, and will provide art projects for attendees. There will also be a chalk art contest and a community mapping project from Newark's Gallery Aferro. Gallery Aferro is in the process of launching the 'Activate: East Orange' public art project, which will be similar to the recent 'Activate: Market Street' project in Newark. The East Orange Public Library and the East Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs will provide programming for children, and several local students will perform. Plus, there will be an arts marketplace, a photo station, and a variety of culinary vendors. According to the City of East Orange, this event will replace last year's Summer Solstice event, which was held in East Orange, Orange, and Newark. City Hall Plaza is located near Route 280 next to the main East Orange Train Station on the Morris and Essex Lines. Local bus service serves the area.

Cedar Grove to Host Summer Movie Nights


Cedar Grove, New Jersey: Cedar Grove's Morgan Farm will hold a series of free movie showings for community members. 'Despicable Me 2', 'Into the Woods', and 'Frozen' will be shown on Tuesdays June 23rd, July 7th, and July 21st, respectively. According to Essex County's The Spirit of Essex publication, all movies will begin at 7:30pmThe series will be presented by the Cedar Grove Municipal Alliance and the Cedar Grove Recreation Department, and popcorn and water will be served. The movies will be presented by The Morgan Farm is located off of 903 Pompton Avenue/Route 23.

See New Jersey's Dancemakers at NJPAC


Newark, New Jersey: The New Jersey Performing Arts Center will host 'Jersey (New) Moves! Emerging Choreographers' on Friday, June 19th in the Victoria Theater. Local choreographers submitted their pieces, and this year's winners are Lauren Connolly, Kyle Marsh, and Arielle Petruzella, all of Hudson County. The event will be presented by NJPAC and Dance New Jersey. Tickets to the event cost $34, and can be purchased in advance hereThe New Jersey Performing Arts Center is located at 2 Center Street in Downtown Newark. Parking is available for a fee, or attendees can take local NJ Transit buses or the Newark Light Rail to the NJPAC/Center Street Station.

Jazz in the Garden Coming to Newark Museum


Newark, New Jersey: The Newark Museum will hold the 'Jazz in the Garden' series again this year in June and July. Performances will be held on Thursdays from 12:15pm to 1:45pm. Event dates are July 2nd, July 9th, July 16th, and July 23rd. In addition, there will be an opening night event on Friday, June 19th. Tickets will cost $35 for members of the general public. Students and employees of Rutgers University will be given free admission to the July 9th event with Akiko. The Newark Museum is located at 49 Washington Street, and can be accessed by taking the Newark Light Rail to Atlantic Street Station or Washington Park Station, or by taking New Jersey Transit buses 11, 13, 27, 28, 29, 44, and 72. Parking is available at the Central Parking lot for a fee.

Glen Ridge Library to Host Community Hero Day


Glen Ridge, New Jersey: The Glen Ridge Public Library will host 'Community Hero Day' on Saturday, June 27th. The event will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on the outside grounds. Attendees can meet local Glen Ridge-area police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers, and see the insides of their vehicles. In addition, children can create a passport and get it stamped as they visit each agency.


The Glen Ridge Public Library is located at 240 Ridgewood Avenue, near the northwest corner of Bloomfield Avenue.
