PHOTOS: HBO Films ‘The Plot Against America’ in Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, N.J.: An upcoming HBO series that has recently been filming throughout Northern New Jersey has now come to Maplewood.

Crews with "The Plot Against America" are currently working along the small Ridgewood Road business district in Maplewood near the South Orange border. The series, which will consist of six episodes, is based on the eponymous book by Essex County native Philip Roth.

The facades of several shops in the area were painted in order to resemble a beer garden. In Roth's book, a beer garden was mentioned in the first chapter. Multiple vintage cars associated with the production were also parked along nearby Audley Street in South Orange while mannequins wearing World War II-era clothing were installed in the window of the Milk Money consignment shop.

HBO is expected to return to Jersey City to film part of the series next week. The series has already taped in a Jersey City synagogue along with Downtown Newark, Union, Clifton, and Englewood.
