Washington, District of Columbia: President Barack Obama honored the recipients of the 2015 National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal at a ceremony in the East Room of The White House in Washington on Thursday.
Two of the honorees are from New Jersey. James McBride, of Lambertville in Hunterdon County, and Elaine Pagels, of Princeton in Mercer County, were both recipients of the National Humanities Medal. McBride, an author, was honored for "humanizing the complexities of discussing race in America" and Pagels, a Princeton University professor, was honored for "her study of ancient manuscripts and other scholarly work".
Other honorees included Mel Brooks, Berry Gordy, Audra McDonald, and Terry Gross.
