Small Mixed-Use Development Planned Near South Orange Train Station

South Orange, New Jersey: Another mixed-use building could be constructed near the South Orange Train Station.

The latest development proposal in the village calls for a four-story building to be constructed at 14 Second Street, between Sloan Street and Valley Street. According to South Orange Planning Board records, The Y Group, LLC, of Hoboken, is seeking Preliminary and Final Site Plan Approval, and plans for the building to contain eight residential units and 557 square feet of retail space. 13 parking spaces would be provided.

The property, located next to a Wells Fargo branch just a few yards away from the stairwells to the train station platforms, is currently vacant, with the exception of a small garage. A house built in 1852 was previously located on the premises, but it was demolished in recent years. The Y Group acquired the site for $250,000 in 2012, according to NJ Parcels data.

The South Orange Planning Board will hear the application for completeness during is meeting on Monday, June 5th at 7:30pm at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
