Housing Could Come to Newark's South Ward

Newark, New Jersey: A new development project could be coming to Newark's South Ward.

According to a legal notice, a new building is proposed for 274-282 West Runyon Street in the Upper Clinton Hill neighborhood. Triple A Builders Phase II LLC, which owns several properties around the city, has applied to the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) for the 38.5 foot tall building to have four stories with parking on the ground floor. The top three floors would each have 24 apartments should the project be approved.

The property, which has been a vacant gated lot for several years, sits two blocks from Hawthorne Avenue, which is served by NJ Transit's Bus 27 to Downtown Newark and Clifton. While other areas of Newark, particularly the Central and East Wards, have seen an increase in new development in the last five years, this is among the first projects planned for the South Ward.

A public hearing regarding this potential new development will be held before the ZBA at City Hall on Thursday, June 9th at 7:00pm.
