Following Trump's Indiana Victory, Newark Officials Encourage Residents to Register to Vote

Newark, New Jersey: Officials from the City of Newark are urging Newarkers to register to vote.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr., New Jersey State Senator Teresa Ruiz and other officials are hosting a voter registration drive today, beginning at 3:00pm at the Vince Lombardi Center in Newark's North Ward. A forum will be held at 4:00pm.

A statement from the City reads that "the drive will emphasize the critical importance of voting this year now that Donald Trump has apparently clinched the Republican nomination and is running on a platform that threatens the Latino community," adding that the "event is timed to observe Cinco de Mayo and reach out to Latino and underserved populations".

The VInce Lombardi Center is located at 201 Bloomfield Avenue near Branch Brook Park, between Parker Street and Ridge Street. Transportation is available using NJ Transit buses 11, 28, go28, 29, and 72.

Those who cannot attend the event can register to vote by filling out this form and sending it to the Essex County Hall of Records in Downtown Newark.
