Distillery Planned for Former Newark Warehouse

Newark, New Jersey: The City of Newark could soon have its first distillery.

According to a legal notice, Res Natura Distillery is planning to open in the Ironbound section of Newark's East Ward at 424-426 Mulberry Street, at the corner of Tichenor Street. The property, which is owned by JJEE Group 2, was previously a warehouse. It sits just across the street from the train tracks used by NJ Transit, Amtrak, and PATH. According to documents from the Newark Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA), there would be an accessory bar, liquor sales, and tastings in the space should the project be approved. Manufacturing is currently prohibited in the zone.

Currently, all three of Essex County's distilleries are located in Fairfield.

A public hearing regarding the proposed Newark microbrewery will be held before the ZBA on Thursday, May 26th at 6:30pm at City Hall on Broad Street.
