Photos: Officials Break Ground on New East Orange 7-Eleven

East Orange, New Jersey: Local leaders gathered this afternoon for a ceremony to break ground on East Orange's new 7-Eleven convenience store location. The new store is scheduled to open in mid-December of this year opposite the main East Orange Public Library at 247 Freeway Drive East, at the corner of South Arlington Avenue. The store will offer free parking, and will be located within the East Orange Transit Village District.

At today's event, representatives from the City of East Orange and 7-Eleven told attendees that the new store, which is being built at the site of a previously vacant lot, will benefit the area.

Mayor Lester E. Taylor, III said that the new store will help make East Orange "a destination city".

"I thank 7-Eleven for their commitment to the City of East Orange", Taylor added.

The City of East Orange recently launched the 'Experience East Orange' brand to help promote local attractions.

"We look forward to becoming a part of this community", said Mike Gould, the regional market manager for 7-Eleven. The international convenience store chain has expanded dramatically in recent years in the Newark area. New stores have opened in Newark, South Orange, and Maplewood in the past three years.

The 7-Eleven location is one of several new businesses slated to open in the city. Sharee Amour Juice Bar will open this fall, and a Holiday Inn Express location will be the second hotel in the city.
