Maplewood, New Jersey: The South Mountain Reservation Family Campout will return this year.
The event will be held at Summit Field off of Crest Drive in the Maplewood section of the park from 2:00pm on Saturday, September 19th to 12:00pm on Sunday, September 20th. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the following week. The event will be presented by the South Mountain Conservancy (SMC), and the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs will assist.
According to SMC, the event is designed for families with children ages 12 and under, though registration will be limited to approximately 35 families. Activities will include guided natur hikes and tours, a bike/scooter ride, a campfire and storytelling, yoga, and a scavenger hunt. Attendees will need to bring a tent, sleeping bags, dinner, snacks, and additional items. Breakfast will be served on Sunday morning.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Department will patrol the area, and all campers will be required to where wristbands to identify themselves.
