Reports: LeRoy Jones Facing Simple Assault Charge in Connection with June Incident


East Orange, New Jersey: LeRoy Jones, the East Orange man who is the chair of Essex County's Democratic Committee, has been charged with simple assault in connection with a June incident, according to WCBS. Jones was caught on surveillance video the evening of June 2nd, the day of a primary election, allegedly punching an Essex County poll worker in the face at The Brookside, a senior citizen housing facility in upper East Orange that is used as a voting site. EssexCountyPolitics.com reports that the alleged victim, who is a legally blind military veteran, was taken to the East Orange VA Hospital on Tremont Avenue after the alleged assault.  The site also claims that Jones was charged with disorderly conduct.

Jones, a former state assemblyman, defended his alleged actions in an interview with WCBS.
