West Caldwell, New Jersey: Western Essex County's first Jersey Mike's Subs franchise is preparing for opening day. A location will open in the former Just Salad location at 775 Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell on Wednesday, July 22nd. The franchisee, Matt Catania, told Essex County Place that he decided to open in West Caldwell because the township is community oriented and because of a "phenomenal" demographic. Catania said that he had been looking for a West Caldwell location for over a year. He owns several other Jersey Mike's Subs locations, including two in Wayne, Passaic County.
Jersey Mike's Subs has other Essex County locations at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark and on Prospect Avenue in West Orange. The other locations are operated by different franchisees.
The new West Caldwell Jersey Mike's Subs will hold a grand opening celebration from opening day until July 26th. 7,000 sub cards will be distributed, and can be redeemed for a free sub during that time in exchange for a $2 donation to West Essex or James Caldwell High Schools.
However, the new location will face competition. There are Subway, Blimpie, Manhattan Bagel, and Jimmy John's locations within five miles of the new Jersey Mike's Subs location.
