MACFest Coming to East Orange

East Orange, New Jersey: The first East Orange MACFest will take place this Saturday, June 13th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. The event will celebrate Music, Arts, and Culture in the city, and will be held at City Hall Plaza. Admission is free, and there will be live music by East Orange natives and New Jersey bands. The performances will begin East Orange's Jazz at the Plaza Concert Series. In addition, the Montclair Art Museum Art Truck will be present, and will provide art projects for attendees. There will also be a chalk art contest and a community mapping project from Newark's Gallery Aferro. Gallery Aferro is in the process of launching the 'Activate: East Orange' public art project, which will be similar to the recent 'Activate: Market Street' project in Newark. The East Orange Public Library and the East Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs will provide programming for children, and several local students will perform. Plus, there will be an arts marketplace, a photo station, and a variety of culinary vendors. According to the City of East Orange, this event will replace last year's Summer Solstice event, which was held in East Orange, Orange, and Newark. City Hall Plaza is located near Route 280 next to the main East Orange Train Station on the Morris and Essex Lines. Local bus service serves the area.
