Bergen Street to Host 'Better Block Newark' Event


Newark, New Jersey: The Better Block Newark event will take place on Bergen Street between Lehigh and Lyons Avenues in Newark's South Ward this Saturday, June 6th. There will be a variety of activities, including yoga sessions from the Newark Yoga Movement, a Mini TechPark with wifi, charging stations, and tablets, a 3.6 mile bike tour of Weequahic Park with United Cycle (rental bikes will be available), a pop-up print shop from the Newark Print Shop, free face painting for children from Positively Publishing Kids, a photography exhibit, and chess. These will also be a farm stand from the Greater Newark Conservancy. In addition, the Newark Mobile Health Clinic will be present during the entire event. Clinic staff will offer medical assessments, treatments, immunizations, and screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. Those who plan on using the services provided at the Mobile Health Clinic are asked to bring a photo ID, among other items. Better Block Newark is an initiative from of the Newark Department of Economic and Housing Development that takes works to improve small corridors in some of Newark's neighborhoods.


The event is free and open to all. New Jersey Transit Bus Transportation is available by taking the Bus 37 from Ivy Hill and Maplewood, Bus 39 from Irvington and Downtown Newark, Bus 99 from Hillside, Belleville, and Forest Hill, or Bus 107 from South Orange, Ivy Hill, and New York.
