'Occupy the Block' in Newark Today

Newark, New Jersey: Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, the City of Newark, the Newark Community Street Team, and the Newark My Brother’s Keeper Alliance will present 'Occupy the Block' this afternoon (May 14th) at 4:30pm at the corner of Clinton Avenue and Chadwick Street in the South Ward of the city. According to the City, community members are encouraged to come and bring tables, chairs, and board games in order to "occupy this area to help drive out illegal activity". In a press release, Mayor Baraka said that efforts such as this are part of a "summer strategy to reduce violence in our city".

A similar event will take place this Saturday, May 16th, at 4:30pm at the corner of Chancellor Avenue and Schley Street.
